Brownies

3rd Brownies

Brownies meet on a Tuesday evening at Scout & Guide HQ on Low Hall Road, 6-7.30pm

3rd Menston Brownies is run by Pam and Jayne, who are Unit Guiders with the assistance of Unit Helpers, Ali, Aisling and Kate.

Within the unit we have sixes (Hedgehogs, Squirrels, Rabbits, Badgers and Foxes). Each six has a sixer and seconder, who look after the rest of the girls in their six, help set up activities and support new Brownies when they join the unit.

Each week, we have fun activities and follow the Brownie Programme. The programme is full of fun, adventure and variety. It encourages fun whilst developing new skills. We play games and earn badges in themes such as communication, first aid, camping and many more. Brownies can work on interest badges at home such as baking, aviation, inventing, and first aid. Throughout their time in Brownies, they can gain awards bronze, silver and gold which is a great achievement for them.

We have taken the girls on a sleepover to Burley Scout and Guide Hut, where we did science activities and had a pack holiday at Wynches Campsite in Burley. The girls completed Olympic activities and tried out an aerial runway and a pioneering swing. We have been to the cinema with Guides and Rainbows. We did a talent performance for the parents.
The girls are 7 to10 year olds and move up to Guides when they turn 10. Some of our girls have moved up from Rainbows but we have girls that have never been in Guiding before.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
